RUMLog and SOTA

Unread post by dh1ahl »

Hello Tom,

I'm new in the Forum, so hello everybody!

I wanted to discuss usage of the RUMLog and also RUMLog2go for SOTA activation.
I'm using your software for logging in my shack and it is very good software, but for SOTA activations I was using standard paper log until I saw there is new RUMLog app for the iPad.
I did not had any chance until now to test it in the field, but it seems to be also pretty good and I like the dropbox syncing.
There are some functions that I'm missing and it it would be very helpful to have them for effective SOTA activity:

1) logging in the app: when you put the station call you have only standard keyboard available. Normally, and I think hamlog is doing this, I will need a keyboard where all letters AND numbers are available on the same page for faster logging (it is very common that you are in the pileup and don't have time for changing between letters and numbers).
It also would be very nice to have the actual summit reference available on the logging page (for some tours with 3 or more summits on one day it is very helpful and you need this anyway for the export to the SOTA database)

2) SOTA Export function: I had a contact with Patrick who made a nice script to transfer adif file exported from RUMLog to a csv file accepted in SOTA database:
http://smkymtns.com/component/jdownload ... l?Itemid=0

and I think it will be really helpful to have similar function directly in your software or you have a possibility to start that script from your software and proceed the transformation (I did not find anything)

I hope there is a chance to have something like that in the future?

many thanks and regards

Another type of keyboard would be nice, but there is no option provided by Apple. All self made keyboard I saw, look not very well.
It is not a big time lost when you touch the Shift key and swipe to the desired number key. Nobody will run a pileup on an iPad, or you should consider to use an external Bluetooth keyboard.

RUMlog has a dedicated SOTA export routine provided in the Search Window. You have just to write the reference into the Note field. I have it on my to do list to support S2S as well, but I haven't found the time yet to implement this.

Hello Tom,
thanks for your comment. It is pretty hide function and also no hint in the help file, but it is exactly what I need. There is also new preferred format for that export:
http://www.sotadata.org.uk/ActivatorCSVInfo.htm
so there should be a way to put the SOTA reference and still have some comments. I would appreciate if you implement that function...

I attached picture of the keyboard that is implemented in the ham log and it is looking ok. For sure you can use still shift button, but with that keyboard it is more efficient and I would like still to use only iPad even if there is a lot of stations calling.

maybe there are other hams also waiting for that function...?

thanks for your help and regards from Munich
