iCloud synced logbook . having trouble - need help

Unread post by LA0FA »

I decided to go from a dropbox saved logfile which is basically non concurrently adressed/used by my iMac and my Mac Book Pro to the iCloud synced logbook. I can tell you I have now soon burned an entire weekend. After the initial setup and several hours before I could see a complete log in Mac Book Pro (I imported my logbook on iMac) it is still very unpredictable ... a simple qso addition in one of the Macs often take 20 mins to hours before it shows up in the other Mac (and also in iPhone/IOS version). Using Rumlog 5.20 on both machines.. 15.6.1 Segoia on Mac Pro and iMac ... now upgraded I Mac to 15.7.1 and still no improvement. Both Mac on same network, both Ethernet connected. No other network issues observed on any on the devices. Having approx 43k QSO in the database. Concept I iCloud synced logbook seems the right thing to do to avoid conflicts if two Macs want to access same dropbox saved loggfile. on iMac I operate my local rig, on Mac Pro I operate my remote rig/Flex8400 - I run telnet/spots from both mac's. Any advice and similar experience ?

I have now used the iCloud synched logbook over a period. After (you were right I had to be patient) a longer multi-day period it was correctly synched between iMac, Mac Book Pro and iPone. However, I must say it is extremely instable ... from time to time it takes up to a day to reflect a new qso done on the iMac on the other devices and vice versa. It's actually to a level unpredictable that it is of no good use to me. I have experimented a lot - logged in and out from Apple account (sometimes it seems to help) - everything is correctly setup. All devices are normally within the same local LAN, tried to see any difference in between both mac's being on ethernet or Wifi .. but I don't see any difference. Again, is it designed to handle a logbook size of 50k QSO's - I start doubting. I think I need to revert back to a dropbox saved log-file with the disadvantages of having only one Mac at the time accessing it. Being a registered Apple developper, I have been learning about the toolkit and dashboards you on your end have available to check up on the performance of iCloud sync .... My humble ask is for a bit of support checking out what is the root cause for this problem. Thanks a ton in advance. 73 de LA0FA, Matthias

There are good tips in the document and the provided links.
Log out iCloud on the device, log back in with the same Apple ID, and then reboot the device. This clears the cached state related to the Apple ID.
There have been no complaints from other users for a long time. Users report quickly if something is not working properly.
What I can tell you is:
We have ca. 700 different users daily using the sync feature using it on ca. 800 different devices. (Mac: 89 %, iPhone: 7 %, iPad: 4 %)
There are 20.000 database changes daily.
