Hi Tom.
I am the proud owner of a new DIGI KEYER II. I want to integrate it with RUMlog and my Icom 746PRO. My goal is to work PSK and RTTY (FSK) from RUMlog and control the radio. At this point, I need some configuration guidance.
I have tried to configure RUMrouter, RUMlog and cocoamodem but have only been partially successful. Below are the configuration steps I have done and the results.
1. Configured the DIGI KEYER II jumpers for the ICOM.
2. Installed the latest mac drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
3. Ran RUMrouter. "microHAM" is in green. "RUMlog" goes green when I start RUMlog. In the device list box, "usbserial-D2U3YX0D" is selected.
4. In RUMrouter, I opened the digikeyer II Preferences and selected "useAUTOPtt" and "PTT for Digital". I am not sure what I should set here.
5. In RUMlog preferences (TRX 1), I set TRCVR to "IC-7400 (66h) and checked "Use microKeyer" for the serial port.
6. In RUMlog preferences (Digi) RTTY: Modem - "cM + MKII (FSK)", PTT - MKII. PSK: Modem - "cocoamodem", PTT MKII. I am not sure if this is correct.
7. In RUMlog, the frequency and mode display changes as I change them on the radio - this is good!
8. When I double click on a DX cluster spot in the RUMlog logging window, the radio's frequency and mode DOES NOT change. Is there a setting I missed?
9. I tried RTTY. I selected RTTY mode on the radio and selected "Digi show controls" in RUMlog. Cocoamodem started. I clicked "Configuration" and set: Main receiver - Input = microham codec. source = ext line connector. Transmitter: Output = microham codec, PTT = VOX. The "Line" and "SC" lights on the digikeyer are lit. I can receive and transmit (into dummy load for now) OK.
10. I tried PSK. Set RUMlog mode to PSK and selected "Digi show controls". Radio mode is set to USB-D. I set Input = microham codec, source = external line connector. Output = microham codec, PTT = VOX (the digikeyer option is greyed out). My configuration is definitely not correct. The radio starts transmitting as soon as the configuration screen is displayed.
Tom, can you please provide some configuration guidance or point me towards some helpful documentation? I have read the RUMlog and RUM Router manuals. My main issues are I cannot get the radio to change frequency, band and mode and I cannot configure PSK. I have operated RTTY and PSK on windows PC's but not the Mac. I have not used cocoamodem either and am not running Chen's uH Router as I assumed your RUM Router is all that is needed.
I apologize for all the questions. I would be very very happy if I could use my Mac (a new iMac) for all my ham radio needs. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you in advance,
Sheldon

DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
Re: DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
Sheldon, you are very close to a success, your settings are nearly correct

Do not use the "AutoPtt" option when the device is connected to a Mac! This function is not compatible with Mac OS-X. As soon as a program connects to the audio codec, the PTT will be triggered. Tick the box "PTT for Digital", to use the hardware PTT keying via the DKII. (Not VOX)4. In RUMrouter, I opened the digikeyer II Preferences and selected "useAUTOPtt" and "PTT for Digital". I am not sure what I should set here.
Switch off the AutoPtt option, see above - I should add a note in the program.10. ... The radio starts transmitting as soon as the configuration screen is displayed.
You have to double click on the frequency part in the spot, or click into the bandmap.8. When I double click on a DX cluster spot in the RUMlog logging window, the radio's frequency and mode DOES NOT change. Is there a setting I missed?

Re: DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
Hi Tom.
Thank-you for your response. I made the changes you suggested. My system is now running! I made some PSK and RTTY contacts today using RUMlog and the digi keyer. My rig is also changing frequency and mode.
I really appreciate your help.
Thank-you again.

Re: DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
Hi Tom.
Sorry for another question, but would you please comment regarding the setup and use of the RTTY digi screen.
I am using my Icom 746 PRO in RTTY mode.
I notice that unlike the PSK screen, the transmit bars stay locked in the middle of the screen while the receive moves. The receive signal is always on the far right. Once I tune in a signal using the 746 Pro's RTTY meter, to decode it, I have to click the signal on the far right in the RUMlog digi receive screen. Screenshot RUMlog_digi shows my radio tuned to 14.085.00. Is my configuration correct for using FSK?
I attached three other RTTY config screen captures in hopes that they may help.
Thank-you once again,
Sheldon

PS. PSK is working very well and I made several contacts today.

Re: DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
The TX tones are always locked while you are using FSK. Normally the IC-7400 is set to the high tones, since the dual peak filter will work with the high tones only. In RUMlog you should select the high tones as well. Use the popup menu below the waterfall display to adjust the display width.

Re: DIGI KEYER II and RUMlog configuration
Hi Tom.
Thank-you again for your advice. I set the RTTY "Tones" to "High" and the transmit bars moved to the right in the receive display and matched up with the receive bars. Now the frequency on my rig matches the frequency on the receive display. All very good and the advice is greatly appreciated. I can hardly wait to try some RTTY contacts. My work schedule will keep me from the radio for a few days unfortunately.
I am very pleased to have a 100% Mac ham station. My brag files are clear that I am running RUMlog as are my QSL labels. Thank-you again for RUMlog.
