I'm trying to set up RL and CocoaModem for my Elecraft K3 to not use VOX for keying. I'm not even sure it's possible?
CM offers only 2 methods, VOX and MacLoggerDX.
I think I've tried every combination for the CTS and DTR lines in RL, but cannot find a setting that works. I'm using a USB/RS232 (FTDI chipset) converter cable running from a USB expander on a MacBook Pro.

Re: Digi setup
There are a lot of possible options:
- Do you have RUMlog set to control the K3 via CAT?
- For RTTY do you want to sent out AFSK via cocoaModem or real FSK via K3?
- Do you have a microHAM device in the line?
- Do you want to use RUMlog's integrated features to work RTTY and PSK? (Menu-->Digi-->Show Control WIndow)

Either would be fine, but I started with CCM and AFSK.- Do you have a microHAM device in the line?
NO.- Do you want to use RUMlog's integrated features to work RTTY and PSK? (Menu-->Digi-->Show Control WIndow)
This makes a lot of combinations, each with other required settings.

Re: Digi setup
Fine, when the CAT control is working you have to select in the RUMlog preferences under the Digi tab the following for RTTY AFSK:
Modem: cocoaModem
PTT: TX via CAT (via RTS or DTR should work also, but you have to configure the K3 as well)
In cocoaModem select VOX as PTT option.
Further you have to make sure, you have selected the appropriate modes in the RUMlog preferences under the TRX tab. For AFSK RTTY you should select Data and AFSK A.
Now you should be able to work RTTY within the RUMlog Digi window. Make sure, the logging mask mode field states RTTY. Note that cocoaModem will act as modem only! Using the controls in cocoaModem may have unwanted side effects or may not work as expected. A good practice is to switch cocoaModem into the "Lite" interface. cocoaModem-->Preferences-->General

The mode mask and the RUMLog digi window will not stay on RTTY. Both flip to PSK after a second. The K3 is at 14082,00 MHz, DATA. On the QRG/Mode panel in the CW/RTTY column is 14068. In the RTTY/SSB column is 14150. If this is the reason the log mask won't hold, I would expect whatever is set in the log mask to be the determining setting.

Re: Digi setup
No, this should not be the reason. For the first tests please keep the K3 Control window closed. This could cause this trouble. Select the options as shown below. The mode mask and the RUMLog digi window will not stay on RTTY. Both flip to PSK after a second. The K3 is at 14082,00 MHz, DATA. Open the Digi window, and you can toggle between PSK and RTTY using the provided buttons.

Re: Digi setup
Well done Tom. Thanks for your patience and knowledge.
I don't know what was causing the mode to flip to PSK, but it's OK now. A little thundrestorm rolled through and I tuned everything off. When I started again, it worked as it should.

Re: Digi setup
I just went through another session of RTTY mode switching to PSK. It's now staying, I have no idea what caused it to misbehave then behave.
The K3 is not keying. It is receiving OK, and the xmit tones are getting to it. I reviewed all my settings, and they are as above AFAICT.
Another bout of switching. I think it's picking up something from the K3. When the K3 is off, no switching.
If I turn off the K3, then select RTTY in the Digi>Show Control window, the setting holds and the K3 transmits.
Change bands on the K3, setting goes to PSK. Turn off the radio, select RTTY, turn radio on, setting holds, but the K3 is not keyed. Very random.
Something is very unstable here, I'm suspecting poltergeists.....
OK, the swap has stopped. Eerie.
I cannot transmit without clicking the transmit button.
I have tried:
Tx by CAT rig OFF OFF
Tx by RTS rig RTS OFF
Tx by DTR rig DTR OFF
