ARRL International Digital Contest

Hi Members of this Forum and DL2RUM,

Does anybody have a recommended workaround for using RUMlogNG to log the new "ARRL International Digital Contest" (Contest ID: "ARRL-DIGI")? This contest's INAUGURAL (first) running is this weekend. Unfortunately, this contest is NOT currently supported by RUMlogNG. Hopefully, DL2RUM (RUMlogNG's developer) will add it to the list of supported contests before its next running in June of 2023.

In the interim, could I use the "General Contest" selection to log this year's ARRL International Digital Contest, which starts today (4 June 2022) and ends tomorrow (5 June 2022)?

Alternatively, is there another already supported contest that would be a better fit? If there's another RUMlogNG-supported, contest with rules (including scoring) identical (or close enough) to those for the ARR International Digital Contest, then it would be an optimum workaround. Of course, I might have to go into the log (or its ADIF export) and "tweak" some (hopefully few) things to comply with the rules for this contest.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

73,
Tony/K4QR

This contest was added in version 5.7 from March 2022. What's wrong with it? It's listed as ARRL International Digital Contest

I am using RL with WSJT-X in this contest and it seems to be working fairly well. Being unfamiliar with digital contests, I had a few tweaks to get the automatic logging into RL working, but it's now working fine. I have one issue that might be a bug, or maybe my error. If I automatically log a QSO, it always comes up with 1 point in the scoring table. However, if I open the QSO for editing in the contest window, and then immediately save it, the points total is updated to reflect the 500km rule. (distance between grid locations). Is this a bug?

I have one more general operational question. I am not a serious contester, and am wondering what the best practice is for logging windows and RL usage. I have been keeping both the main logging window and the contest window open and updating simultaneously. But it gets a little crowded on the display with all those windows open. Also, one minor annoyance: when I double-click on a new station in WSJT-X, it pops the RL main logging window open and in front, even if I have it minimized. The contest window is of most interest (dup-checking) so don't really need to see the main log full time.

Tnx for the hint. This is definitively a bug and it will be fixed in the next update.

This works as designed when the option Callsign check is active. My best contest practice is to keep the normal logging window complete closed. After the contest I use the Import contest file routine.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I can see that would be a simpler technique.

In regards to this contest, when I export Cabrillo, and then try to import to the ARRL website, all my QSO's show an error. I replaced the other party's callsign with capital X's:

-----------------------------------------
QSO: 14076 DG 2022-06-04 2024 KD0CEN -01 EM47 XXXX -08 DM44
sent exchange grid (-01) not valid
copied exchange grid (XXXX) not valid

-------------------------------------------
Pretty sure I had all the data in the right fields, did I somehow export it incorrectly? Did this happen to anyone else? First contest I've done, so it's very possible I've screwed something up!

Thanks

The Cabrillo may be in a wrong formatted. I haven't found any templates for this contest so I used a usual one.
You should ask ASAP the contest manager for a correct formatted Cabrillo example. There are only few days to go for the log submission.

Okay, I got an info. Try this: https://dl2rum.de/RUMlogNG/RUMlogNG_Test.zip Cabrillo should work now.

If the score in your log is not correct:
  • Use the Contest menu to export the log as ADIF
  • Create a new log file for this contest
  • Use the Contest menu to import your QSOs

That did the trick. Many Thanks!!

I did have to export and import to make the calculations work properly.
