RUMlogNG2Go and Bluetooth

Unread post by SM7IUN »

I just got RUMlogNG2Go for my iPad and it's really great for portable operations.

It would be even greater if I could connect to my radios to automatically log operating frequency and mode.

I have a Bluetooth dongle for my FT-817ND and was thinking of building a similar for my KX2 but I found that iPad does not support the Bluetooth serial port profile, so no joy.
(However this dongle works well with PC or Android.)

Is the Bluetooth connectivity in RUMlogNG2Go only for the Mac version of the app or are there supported Bluetooth modules also for iPad?
(I'd like to know if it is worthwhile before I build a dongle for my KX2.)

The Piglet is, in my mind, ridicolously expensive and it even seems uncertain if it is still for sale.

iOS support Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) only. Pse read this thread: http://dl2rum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=840
I would always prefer the Bluetooth module over the WLAN module, but you have to build it yourself. I don't know the Yaesu, but for an Icom you just need the Adafruit module and a power supply, for Elecraft and Kenwood you need a level converter. (MAX3323EEPE recommended)

Thanks Tom!

I have no issue building it, i just wanted to make sure it would work before ordering the parts.

Much appreciated.

In looking at the Adafruit UART and other options for enabling RUMlogNG2GO to talk to a radio, I ran across a Bluetooth LE device that looks like it might work right out of the box to provide an interface for serial communication between an iPad and a radio. https://www.usconverters.com/rs232-seri ... rt-adapter
Here's its data sheet: https://www.usconverters.com/downloads/ ... B5232E.pdf

Might be worth checking out.
